U.S. Youth Futsal Central Regional Championship 2020 Recap

Kansas City and Heartland Futsal played host to the U.S. Youth Futsal Central Regional Championship January 17-19, 2020.  114 teams in 16 age groups were vying for top honors and automatic berths in the U.S. Youth Futsal National Championships to be held in Kansas City, February 14-17, 2020.  The Central Region Age groups ranged from U9 to U18-19.   

Boys Futsal Bracket

On the boys side, local powerhouse soccer club Sporting Blue Valley featured prominently along with TSC Futsal Academy and City Futsal.

In the boys U9 bracket, RB7 2011 Boys Red out of Edmond, Oklahoma and coached by Raphael Bonelle, took home the championship over TSC Futsal Academy 11/12B out of Tulsa, Oklahoma and coached by Eric Edwards.  The score of the championship match was 4-0.

In the boys U11 bracket, GC Potrillos from Garden City, Kansas and coached by Juan Enriquez, won a tightly contested final (5-4) over Legacy FC 09 from Broken Arrow Oklahoma and coached by John Waite.

In the boys U12 bracket, TSC Futsal Academy 08B from Tulsa, Oklahoma and also coached by Eric Edwards, prevailed 7-1 in the championship game over local side Sporting BV Academy 08 from Overland Park, Kansas and coached by Gareth Hughes.

In the boys U13 bracket, The Fighting Irish Futbol team out of Denver, Colorado and coached by Billy Beaman, took down TSC Futsal Academy 2007B out of Tulsa Oklahoma and coached by Joao Gabriel Cerbino, 11-4 in the final.

In the boys U14 bracket, local development academy team Sporting Kansas City U14 Academy out of Kansas City, Kansas and coached by Declan Jogi, took home top honors 6-2 over City FC 06 out of Carrollton, Texas and coached by Dane Saintus.

In the boys U15 bracket, Synergy FC 2005 from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and coached by Adrian Ables, slipped by local favorite Sporting BV Academy 05 Red from Overland Park, Kansas and coached by William Malott, 4-3 in a close final match.

In the boys U16 bracket, Forge 2004B from Madison, Wisconsin and coached by Ilir Lushaj, crushed Sporting BV Academy 04 from Overland Park, Kansas and coached by Shawn Forcellini, 5-1 in the championship match.

In the boys U17 bracket, City Futsal 03 Boys out of Dallas, Texas and coached by Dane Saintus, bested another team from Sporting Blue Valley — Sporting BV Academy 03 out of Overland Park, Kansas and coached by Shawn Forcellini, 6-5 in the final.

Finally, in the boys U18-U19 bracket, City Futsal 01B Elite out of Carrollton, Texas and coached by Helder Pondeca, won 6-2 in the championship over Southampton Pro Academy 01B out of Overland Park, Kansas and coached by Russel French.

Girls Futsal Bracket

On the girls side, TSC Futsal Academy once again had much to say about who took home the championships.

In the girls U9 bracket, Synergy FC 2011 from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and coached by Nour Bensaoud, took down TSC Futsal Academy 11G from Tulsa, Oklahoma and coached by Joao Gabriel Cerbino, 4-1 in the final match.

In the girls U10-U11 bracket, Legacy Futsal from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and coached by Michael Moritz, prevailed 9-3 in the final over TSC Futsal Academy 10G from Tulsa, Oklahoma and coached by Tina Banham.

In the girls U12 bracket, RISE 08 Girls out of Mustang, Oklahoma and coached by Evan Dresel, beat KCSG Pre-Academy 08 MO out of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and coached by Jenny Cramer, 3-0 to take the championship.

In the girls U13 bracket, Sporting BV USA Stripes 07 from Overland Park, Kansas and coached by Steven Davies, edged TSC Futsal Academy 07G from Tulsa, Oklahoma and coached by Joao Gabriel Cerbino, 4-3 in the final match.

In the girls U14-U15 bracket, Select from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and coached by Clint Regier, won 4-1 in the final over TSC Futsal Academy 05G from Tulsa, Oklahoma and coached by Tina Banham.

Finally, in the girls U16-U18 bracket, JOTP 02G from St. Paul, Minnesota and coached by Theodore Kroeten, bested KCSG Pre-Academy 03 KS from Olathe, Kansas and coached by Chad Schnarr, 7-2 in the championship match.

Futsal Specific Academies

While local soccer clubs Sporting Blue Valley and KCSG made their presence known, the futsal specific academies were dominant in this tournament.   Check out my post, Futsal vs. Indoor Soccer, to see my thoughts on why that might have happened.
